Weapon Instructor Course, Leeuwarden AFB

26-05-2026

The first two days at Leeuwarden Air Base have been highly successful and productive. The primary objective has been to photograph the participating aircraft.

Throughout the opening phase of the exercise, both Norwegian and Royal Netherlands Air Force F-35 Lightning II aircraft conducted a series of training missions. These sorties provided excellent opportunities for photography, showcasing the aircraft.

Supporting the exercise were the highly experienced adversary and training aircraft from "Top Aces", including the A-4 Skyhawks and Alpha Jets. Flown by some of the industry's top instructor and aggressor pilots, these aircraft played a key role in creating realistic training environments for the participating fighter crews. Their presence added significant value to the exercise.

Weather conditions have generally been favorable, contributing to the success of both flying and photographic activities.

At present, attention is turning toward the arrival of the remaining participants. Additional aircraft and personnel are expected to join in the coming days as the exercise builds toward full operational capacity.

All participating aircrews are involved in the Weapons Instructor Course, an advanced training program designed to develop tactical expertise, leadership, and instructional capabilities. As more participants arrive, the complexity and intensity of the training scenarios are expected to increase significantly.

Following two excellent flying days, the exercise is off to a strong start, with much anticipation for the activities still to come.
