History

The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6, serial number 440726, was a variant of the renowned German single-seat fighter aircraft used during World War II. This particular aircraft was manufactured by Erla, a German aircraft manufacturer, in 1944. It was assigned to 8./Jagdgeschwader 26 (JG 26), a Luftwaffe fighter wing.​

On August 27, 1944, during a combat mission, Bf 109G-6 WNr. 440726 was shot down by a Royal Air Force (RAF) Hawker Tempest near Le Bourget, France. The aircraft crashed and was subsequently captured by Allied forces.​

After its capture, the aircraft was transported to the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace in Le Bourget, where it was displayed as part of the museum's collection of historical aircraft.​

Today, Bf 109G-6 WNr. 440726 is part of the permanent collection at the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace in Le Bourget. T
