Mitsubishi A6M5c, 22383

History

The A6M5c Zero on display at Kanoya is an extensively restored example of the Model 52c variant. This variant was introduced in late 1944 and featured several enhancements, including increased firepower and improved pilot protection. The restoration of this aircraft is notable for its use of salvaged components from multiple wrecks found in Kagoshima Prefecture. Parts from an A6M2b Model 21 recovered near Tarumizu City and an A6M5 Model 52c retrieved from the seabed off Fukiagehama were combined to reconstruct this aircraft, which was installed at the museum in 1993
