Aircraft spotting (Coningsby, Mildenhall)
After a quit start of this UK trip, it was time to get out the fast movers. We were really looking forward to that. First off was RAF Coningsby. Good weather, some nice spots to take pictures and a lot of traffic made our days. Evidence the huge amount of pictures taken. After all of this power, the next day RAF Mildenhall was in the planning. What a difference. Talking about very few movements all day. A big difference with the days before. Sadly the other stable airbase, RAF Lakenheath, let us down on our final day of airplane spotting. We were told by a fellow spotter that the jets at RAF Lakenheath were not flying. Reason some emergency repairs on the field. But still we had high hopes that this would be resolved on Friday. The day we were planning to visit the airbase. Not believing they would ground the entire F-15 and F-35 fleet for such a long time. But no activity on base. So a quick retreat to the Imperial war museum was called for. Especially after the very slow day at RAF Mildenhall we were not in the mood in another day of endless waiting. We changed our travel plans right there and then in the car. Cancelling hotels and rebooking the return ticket on The Shuttle home. Cutting our trip short with two days.
