Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8, WNr. 170393, "Gelbe 11"

History

The Fw 190A-8 at the museum is a reproduction assembled from various original parts and newly manufactured components. Significant original elements include the engine, cowling, aft fuselage, flaps, ailerons, cockpit interior, and undercarriage, sourced from three different wrecks. The main fuselage and wings are replicas constructed by FlugWerk GmbH in Gammelsdorf, Germany. The aircraft's serial number, 170393, was chosen from the production range of Fw 190s built by AGO, Focke-Wulf, and Fiesler, as part of the Nachbau (replica) series.

The original "Gelbe 11" was flown by Feldwebel Alfred Bindseil in April 1944. Bindseil was a member of 6./JG 1, a squadron that participated in various combat operations during the war. The aircraft's reconstruction aims to honor the historical accuracy of its appearance and the role it played in Luftwaffe operations.

The reconstructed Fw 190A-8 is prominently displayed at the Luftfahrtmuseum Hannover-Laatzen, located in Laatzen
