Dornier Do 24T-3, WNr. 3387

History

In September 1944, the Spanish Air Force received Dornier Do 24T-3 aircraft, including c/n 3387. This aircraft was initially assigned the code '65-7', later changing to HR.5-7, HR.5-1, and finally HD.5-1. It remained in active service until 1969, primarily conducting sea rescue operations from Mallorca .

After its decommissioning, the aircraft's journey continued through various ownerships. In August 1976, it was acquired by American collector Dolph Overton, who registered it as N99225 in February 1977. However, the aircraft remained in storage in Pollensa, Spain, and was never delivered to Overton. In 1982, Overton donated the aircraft to the Royal Air Force Museum, which subsequently loaned it to the Militaire Luchtvaart Museum in the Netherlands in November 1991 .

In 2003, the aircraft was transferred to the Deutsches Museum in Oberschleißheim, where it underwent restoration.Notably, during the restoration, the aircraft was fitted with wings from another Do 24T-3 (c/n 3404), resulting in a hybrid configuration . Today, it is displayed in its sea rescue markings from the 1960s and 1970s, reflecting its service in Spain.
